Jay-Z’s New Album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ Offered for Free to Samsung Galaxy Customers

While Jay-Z’s fans are looking forward to the much anticipated upcoming album ”Magna Carta Holy Grail,” the artist, well-known for his business flair, has made a deal with Samsung to release the new album for free to 1 million users of Galaxy mobile phones.
‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’ is the rapper’s 12th studio album and is scheduled for official release on July 4th. In a announcement made on Sunday the artist said that ‘Magna Carta…’ will be given for free for the first 1 million android phone customers who download an app for the album. They will receive the album 72 hours before it goes on sale.
According to The Rolling Stones, the announcement was came through a Samsung commercial that aired during the Miami Heat-San Antonio Spurs game: “The three-minute ad shows Jay-Z working in the studio with Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland and musing on making art in the modern world.”
“We don’t have any rules, everybody is trying to figure it out,” Jay-Z says. “That’s why the internet is like the Wild West. The Wild Wild West. We need to write the new rules.”
Also talking about its upcoming release, the 43-year-old musician said: ”The album is about this duality,” Jay-Z says in the ad, “of how do you navigate your way through this whole thing, through success and through failures, and remain yourself?”
Samsung’s new partnership with a major artist could have a major contribution to the company’s attempt of biting more of the Apple’s share of the market with its Galaxy phones and is pretty relevant to the market strategies mobile companies have implemented – and in which music occupies a significant position – to attract new consumers.
New Album by Kanye West ‘Debuts’ On File-Sharing Sites: ‘Yeezus’
Filed under: Announcements & Events, Downloads, Entertainment Industry, Tops
Kanye West’s long-awaited sixth studio album, “Yeezus,” is due for release tomorrow and it remained pretty secretive until the past few days when news that it leaked online rushed fans but also those curious about the rapper’s new material over to file-sharing websites
The artist gave his fans a taste of album on “Saturday Night Live,” and according to Billboard his new stuff is “plain mad”, “a medley of several genres — new wave, punk, rock, and of course hip-hop,” or as The New York Times calls it – “raw and bumpy, with the arbitrary whims of a studio despot.”
Kanye’s previous release – 2010′s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ brought the 14-time Grammy-winning producer, writer and performer a rare perfect 10 rating on Pitchfork.com.
The “Yeezus” album art (sort of) also found its way on the internet. The CD will be released in a clear, jewel case and has a red sticker on the front. The back of the ‘Yeezus’ CD cover includes a yellow sticker and limited credits.

BitTorrent’s advantages as a platform for distribution and exposure are attracting more and more companies and businesses. Berklee College of Music’s online division surprised many when they recently announced the release of a free BitTorrent Bundle containing music lesson videos and ebooks.
The Berklee Online Musician’s Guide might be the first educational material released by such an institution via the highly-controversial file-sharing protocol. This bundle will surely make music enthusiasts and composers quite happy as it offers 23 music lesson videos dedicated to lots of various topics including guitar and drum performance, music production, songwriting and business practices. The Ebooks content also cover an impressing variation of topics – guitar, piano, music theory, songwriting, orchestration, production and business (check the full list here).
While there’s an instand download sample containing 4 videos, to have access to the rest of the content you have to your email address.
BitTorrent’s blog reads:
We’re partnering with Berklee Online to build the world’s largest open music classroom.[...]
In collaboration with Berklee Online, we’re making a collection of some of this material available to all the Internet’s music students. The Berklee Online Musician’s Guide is a 27GB compilation of 23 in-depth music lesson videos and 7 ebooks, covering everything from songwriting and production to performance and business best practices. It’s pretty awesome.
For over a decade, we’ve seen the power of BitTorrent in moving information. Our goal is to apply this to education; empowering the next generation of creators. If you’re an aspiring or established musician, the Internet is now your classroom.

Commenting on the company’s recent partnership, Berklee’s Vice President for Online Learning, Debbie Cavalier said:
“Part of our goal at Berklee Online is to expand the reach of the college. We’ve been teaching music online for over ten years, and we’ve always included a free component to what we do. This includes our lesson-rich YouTube channel and Berkleeshares.com free lesson site, as well as our more recent development of MOOCs.”
“The technology behind BitTorrent is impressive. It’s one of the best tools out there to move data to a large community of engaged people. We’re looking at this partnership with BitTorrent as an extension of our free approach, and it is one that I am very excited about.”
BitTorrent Promotes: The Boxer Rebellion
Filed under: Announcements & Events, Downloads, File-Sharing Programs, Networks & Services
BitTorrent’s Monday Download series introduces this week The Boxer Rebellion, a rock band formed in London in 2001 by Nathan Nicholson, Todd Howe, Adam Harrison, and Piers Hewitt. Since we’re so fond of sharing and so happy when it also comes to mean supporting and promoting creative people, we too wanted to let you know about these guys and the download they put out there for everyone to enjoy
In Jan 2009, they self-released their second album, Union. It went on to become iTunes’ Alternative Album of the Year. The Boxer Rebellion became the first ‘unsigned’ band to break the Billboard Albums 200 on a digital-only release. With Union, The Boxer Rebellion made a statement about the state of rock: you can be independent, and successful. And they set a precedent for music’s next wave.
Over the years, they’ve kept moving; following up Union with The Cold Still, and a compilation of b-sides and rarities. Says drummer Piers Hewitt: “We always want to progress musically, and never make the same record twice; having learnt so much since we decided to do things on our own terms, and on our own label.” Promises, their newest album, debuted earlier in May on the band’s own Absentee Recordings label. And it marks yet another evolution for the band: provocative, emotional, and uplifting – a rewrite of the independent rock canon.
We’re partnering with The Boxer Rebellion to distribute tracks from Union and The Cold Still exclusively to BitTorrent fans. Because direct-to-fan is a powerful thing. According to Hewitt:
“Our fans are our life-blood. We know plenty on a first-name basis and we see them and hang at the merch stall after gigs, just like we did all those years ago. The only difference being that now there’s a whole lot more of them… from Tokyo to Mexico City. It’s truly a beautiful thing.”
We expect that there will be a lot more of them now.
Get the BitTorrent Bundle, and you’ll get three tracks from Union, and three tracks from The Cold Still LP. Open the text file inside the Bundle, and find out how to unlock the rest of the The Cold Still LP for a limited time only.

Free Music Downloads: Today’s Treat
Filed under: Announcements & Events, Downloads, Entertainment Industry, Movies, MP3, Digital Audio & Games
Free downloads for music lovers is like candy for kids so we thought to scoop up such free releases and spread the word about them as often as we can here at P2PON. This section will compile reports taken from various sources just to keep you posted with the latest free music downloads made available by emerging or consecrated artists (and includes, of course, links for free downloads).
Dorians
Dorians Fly album is available for free download on the group’s official web site.
The decision to make Fly album free for downloading was made taking into account the growing interest to the band’s activity both in Armenia and abroad.

Alex Day
Last month, Youtube hero and DIY artist Alex Day kicked off a collaboration project with BitTorrent fans. He posted stems from his Epigrams and Interludes tracks to SoShare. You guys picked them up, and made them yours. Awesome. This playlist has pretty much become our favorite thing on the Internet. (We’re probably not alone – these videos have been watched over 31 thousand times.)
The winning track, as decided by Alex: Tess Beighton’s remix of Forever Yours. It adds edge and originality; it comes from the same feeling and place as the original. It’s pretty epic, and we’re reminded again how amazing songs can sound in the hands of fans. On behalf of BitTorrent: congrats! You can find more from Tess here. (via BitTorrent blog)
