Deluge Review (Linux Bittorrent Client)
Deluge is a fresh Bittorrent client written in Python and GTK . It delivers the best performance on Linux GTK desktop environments like Gnome or XFCE but it offers impeccable support for KDE and others as well. The program also requires litorrent and python-libtorrent.
Among the plugins Deluge includes, the Torrent Search may be the handiest. Not so convenient is the fact that results are displayed in a web browser and not inside the program which means you’ll need to download the torrents separately and open them with Deluge. The default sites for searching for torrents are Google, PirateBay, Mininova, IsoHunt, YouTorrent, but you can also choose custom search engines. Torrent Creator is another plugin you’re likely to appreciate as it lets you create your own torrents and share with everyone.
Deluge is attractive for many Gnome Linux users due to the fact it doesn’t require the Java or the KDE libraries to be installed.
The program’s the main window has two sections. The upper one presents you with torrents you’re currently downloading, while the lower section displays various information related to torrent you’ve selected. You will see the torrents list separated into columns which display useful details such as the name of the torrent, its size along with its status, how many peers and seeders are available, the download and upload port, the ETA and share percent. You have the ability to access a context menu by right clicking on a torrent, which lets you to pause, resume, remove torrent and update tracker.
This is a small Bittorrent client with an easy to understand interface. Deluge includes most of the features you are already accustomed to if you’ve used a BitTorrent client before.
However, the program doesn’t allow you to create torrents and it lacks some other Bittorrent functions as well. But since the app is still under development we have reason to expect improvements.
Deluge is a good choice for those of you who are not exactly experts when it comes to downloading files via Bittorrent. It includes a small number of functions so it won’t overwhelm you. However, if you’re interested in getting a very powerful downloading tool with advanced functions, try finding another program.
