StrongDC++ FAQ

Why my topic has been deleted ?

Because you asked for a thing which has been discussed and answered many times or you’re trying to discussed some pseudo-StrongDC++, StrongDC++ with “CVS/SVN” tag or another DC client!!!

What is needed to use “ACTIVE MODE” ?

ACTIVE MODE requires both TCP and UDP access on the same port incoming and all ports outgoing for StrongDC to work properly.
And there are 2 different situations:

1 If you are NOT behind a router, it will be quite simple.
You must only leave the IP fields blank (Settings->Connection settings) AND allow StrongDC in your software firewall.
2 If you are behind a router, the situation will be a bit difficultier to You.
You must set up the router to forward the connections to the computer with StrongDC. (it is called port forwarding).
More information about how to do this with your router/NAT, You can find out in the user manual or at this site.
Then You must select “Firewall with manual port forwarding” (Settings->Connection settings).
In the port fields, enter the port number that you are forwarding on the router. And that should be enough.
By the way, if You use ACTIVE MODE and You have trouble with searching and downloading, just switch StrongDC to PASSIVE MODE.

Are there any other “HUBLISTS“, because mine doesn’t work ?

Yes, there are many hublists which contain links to many hubs. It is quite good, because if one list doesn’t work, You can use another one.
The most popular are:
– http://www.hublist.org/PublicHubList.xml.bz2
– http://www.hublist.org/FullHubList.xml.bz2
– http://dreamland.gotdns.org/PublicHubList.config.bz2
– http://hub2list.redirectme.net/PublicHubList.xml.bz2
– http://hublist.dc-hub.eu/hublist/hublist.xml.bz2
If any of those hublists doesn’t work, please don’t report it to us, just be patient. Everything can break down.

When “the next release” will be done ?

If it’s done, it will be published. And that’s all. During waiting You can read through the changelog.

Why can’t I download “files over 4 GB” ?

The answer is quite simple. You have been using old FAT32 technology which lets You create only files which weight is under 4 GB.
If You want to resolve that problem, You have to convert your FAT32 onto NTFS. How to do it ?
Further information You can find out at: FAT32 info, NTFS info.

Why “my incomplete files are being uploaded” to someone ?

Because StrongDC provides us with a very useful feature like Partial File Sharing (PFS).
If You still would like to turn off it, just disable Multisource downloading (Settings->Downloads->Queue->Segment Downloading).

Download directly to target“, what is it ?

For example, Your hard-drive is quite small and You couldn’t download to “Unfinished Downloads directory”.
In that case, feature %[targetdrive] will be the best for You. (Available in RC10 and upper versions)
Just use pattern like this: ” %[targetdrive]\tempStrongDC\ ” (Settings->Downloads->Unfinished Downloads directory).

I get “Full tree does not match TTH root” everytime I want to download anything.

If You are sure that you try downloading from TTH-matched source, then your hash database became corrupted.
Just delete HashData.dat and HashIndex.xml in your Settings folder and wait for rehashing your share.

What do the letter tags near progressbar mean ?

[T] = TTH tree available (file is being verified during the download)
[Z] = transfer compressed using ZLIB
[R] = rollback used for continuation
[S] = trusted encrypted transfer
[U] = untrusted encrypted transfer
[P] = partial file sharing source
[C] = chunked transfer

I have “slow download speed on LAN“. What’s wrong ?

Generally, You shouldn’t have such a problem because StrongDC works well both on WAN and LAN. But, if You have, try those tips:
1. increase Socket Read Buffer a bit (Settings->Experts Only)
2. disable Safe and compressed transfers (Settings->Advanced)
3. update to last sDC version (problem was in RC10)

Can “Emulation” affect download slots and speed limit ?

Emulation DC++ in the hub will affect both download slots and speed limit.
1. If You use Transfer limiting, emulation doesn’t hide “L:” in your tag, so that OPs are able to see what your speed limit is.
2. If You use Segmented downloading, you will loose slot after each segment is downloaded. For that users who use original DC++ won’t be cheated.

I receive “Remote client does not fully support TTH – cannot download” if I want to download from some users.

It means exactly what it says. StrongDC++ doesn’t allow downloading from client which doesn’t support TTH leaves, because you can’t ensure that downloaded file isn’t corrupted and it is exactly what you want to download. There are still some clients which allow transfers without TTH and it only means that they spread nonverified files over the network, and it’s not good!

How to compile StrongDC++?
