File sharing alternatives to Mininova – list of torrent sites
It’s a pattern – just as in the Pirate Bay’s case when almost instantly as the rumors about the site shutting down emerged, alternative torrent trackers were being posted in news on different websites, now it happens with Mininova.
Earlier today we reported about Mininova going totally legit as it complied with the ruling given by a court in August this year ordering the site to remove all the links to copyrighted content. Just a week ago the site had reached more than 10 billion torrent downloads served since its first appearance on the p2p file sharing scene back in January 2005. Now, its millions of users that helped it become one of the top 100 sites in the world according to Alexa ranking must find other places to download their favorite movies, music, games, etc. Fortunately, you don’t have to look too long as we offer below a list with torrent trackers to fill in the void left by Mininova together with other sites which published their own recommendations (TorrentFreak and DownloadSquad are two examples). Note that some of the sites listed here we have already included in previous reviews. I'm sure you are familiar with many of the sites here just as I know you probably know others as well.

Creating services that combine features of other popular services has become sort of a trend. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. Recently, I told you about great sites like Files24, a mash up between BitTorrent and IMDB and FilmNet a mixture of social networking + self-promotion tool and indeed, a site that offers you a combination of features you already use with different services is most likely a winner.
Today, we present YouScrobble – I think the name is suggestive itself – basically a YouTube-meets-Last.fm site, where users, besides listening to music, can also download songs (limited, however, in number).
So what exactly do you get from YouScrobble? Well, as you’ve probably guessed, Youtubes video archive on one hand, and music info via Last.fm, on the other.
As a guest you are able to search for and listen to music on the site but you can also download five tracks a day. If you choose to register (for free, that is) you will be allowed to download ten more songs, offered download priority, playlist support and scrobble functionality. The best foffering goes, of course, to paid users who are given an unlimited number of downloads and receive the highest priority in the download queue.

First off, the site has one of those clean, stylish looks for which you fall instantly. Then there are its unique features –this is a short ‘inventory’ and I won’t be getting too much into details but I can name a few – a very fast searching function, lots of verified, thus100% safe to download torrents (a ‘crown’ symbol signifies just that), latest popular torrents in main categories displayed on the main page, comprehensive detail pages for individual torrents, categories extended to sub-categories and further to specific grouping and many other. No doubts about it, Kickasstorrents is definitely one site no file sharers should neglect. |

Just set up an account which only takes a few seconds and you’ll be able to grab awesome stuff from MMA fights to MMA instructional, from Boxing to Traditional Martial Arts and Self-Defence; it’s all here- conditioning videos, eBooks etc, well organized in many categories and subcategories (I even found taiji videos!) for easy navigation. (careful with the ratio though!) |
