File-hosting website Rapidshare has switched to a new policy for its free service in a bid to combat piracy
It seems that the fall of giants such as Megaupload but also other smaller file sharing sites has made Rapidshare quite concerned with not getting in the industry’s crosshair itself.
The service has started throttling the download speed for the users of its free service. Furthermore, the latter have also complained of being directed to 404 error screens and prevented from downloading anything.
Rapidshare said that the error was not intentional but due to a website update. According to the company, they have become the preferred destination of the pirates who used MegaUpload and other filesharing services for their sharing needs and considering the fate of the latter that put quite a scare in the service.
