YouTube’s Video Download Service Terminated for Not Making Money
The short existence of YouTube’s video download service came to an end (temporarily, at least). Launched at the beginning of the year the service made it possible for content creators to upload both free and paid downloads to the most popular video sharing site in the world. Despite the initial enthusiasm, however, YouTube wasn’t too inspired with regard to making its project gainful. Users who had posted to the service were sent an email explaining that while current downloads would remain available, other new content cannot be uploaded.
Killed in its infancy, YouTube’s video download service suggests a possible resurrection in the future maybe under a different form “We have decided not to fully productize this, for now”, says the notifying email. However, Google’s spoiled baby is busy with other project – how to charge for premium streaming content, which actually promises some good revenue compared to paid downloads service.
