Music Industry: Pirating Is OK as Long as We Do It
When it comes to suing people for downloading music using p2p networks, record labels couldn’t get more devoted or quicker but as reported by TGDaily.
The morality so often invoked by the music industry in file sharing cases disappears mysteriously when pursuing their own interest – reportedly, speculating the somewhat less stringent Canadian copyright laws, the music industry has released without permission 300,000 songs of jazz legend Chet Baker on CD but just forgot to pay for it. Consequently, Chet Baker's estate has filed a lawsuit against record companies Warner Music Canada, Sony BMG Music Canada, EMI Music Canada, and Universal Music Canada and seeks compensation.
It seems that the industry has admitted that it must pay Baker's family at least CAD$50 million, but Baker's estate is entitled to a lot more than that – up to CAD$60 billion.
With this kind of attitude no doubt the record industry’s concern about musicians suffering from piracy is not very credible since it does not have a problem with screwing artists itself.
