“Three Strikes”: A Model to Follow, Thinks Fox Films
In a recent statement Fox Films Entertainment CEO Jim Gianopulos said that the US needs to follow France’s example and enforce a “three-strikes” legislation to cut off the Internet connections of repeat copyright infringers, Zeropaid reports.
According to Gianopulos, illegal file sharing is the movie industry’s No 1 enemy and independent films suffer the most – obviously he didn’t pay attention to one of the latest indie film with great success on BitTorrent “Ink” whose makers thanked p2p networks for the exposure they got online.
“The bad news is that the internet is big, and it’s anonymous,” said Gianopulos, apparently forgetting all about the era we are living in which holds freedom of speech and information as high values.
Between the fact that file sharing helps moviemakers reach a broader audience and the financial losses it may cause them, a solution to reconcile the advantage and disadvantage p2p offers should be considered but without affecting the liberty of Internet users.
