British Government Publishes Antipiracy Law
As the Digital Economy Bill comes out, not only Internet users who indulge in sharing files online have good reasons to worry but any Internet user as well – the new legislation forces Internet service providers to cut off from the Internet those suspected of illegal file sharing without a court order.
“Better protecting our creative communities from the threat of online infringement will ensure existing and emerging talent is rewarded and will bring new choices for online consumers," said Business Secretary Lord Mandelson.
Out-Law.com reports that ISPs criticized the bill, saying that besides being a serious attack to an individual’s right to be treated as innocent until proven guilty it will cost them a great deal of efforts and money. On the other hand, of course, the legislation was reason to celebrate for the record industry, according to which it will be a necessary step to ensure the protection of intellectual property.
