File-Sharing Crackdown Boosted Music Sales, Says IFPI
According to the record industry in Sweden, sales in music have increased considerably since the country cracked down on piracy.
The new report comes from IFPI Sweden, a branch of the global body which represents the record labels, and which says that the number of CDs and legal downloads sold to music fans since the government has taken radical measure s against file sharers, have had an 18n percent boom.
The IFPI release (translated by the Guardian) further states that it is yet too early to consider this change as a permanent one.
In a recent statement the group points out: 'we hope that users there will permanently switch from unlicensed file-sharing networks that give nothing back to the music community to great value legal services whose operators recognise continuous investment is needed to discover and promote the talent of tomorrow.'
