Stephen Fry: I'm an Illegal Downloader!

The actor admits he uses BitTorrent to download TV shows

The English actor, writer, comedian, author, television presenter and film director Stephen Fry attacked verbally the music and movie industries at an event in London, the BBC reports, speaking against the way file sharers were labelled and pursued after as "criminals".

At the iTunes Festival in London, the actor confessed he used BitTorrent to illegally download “House”, his former comedy partner, Hugh Laurie’s medical drama.

“The last thing I illegally downloaded. Was it a gay sex romp? … It was the season finale of House," he amused the audience.

Fry’s criticism extended to the trial against the founders of Pirate Bay and condemned the entertainment industry’s ways of dealing with this phenomenon. He then called those working in industry blind and rigid for thinking that “someone who bit-torrents an episode of 24 is the same as someone who steals somebody's handbag.”

However, Fry added later via Twitter: "Hope I'm not misunderstood. Such a pity if I get misrepresented as a 'help yourself and be a pirate' advocate …"
