P2P Leak Does Not Stop 'Sims 3' from Making Top Sales
Last month we reported that the latest edition in the blockbuster franchise "The Sims" had found its way to P2P networks about two weeks prior to the official release date.
Once again the nefarious file sharing proves to be less damaging than thought or stated. Electronic Arts announced today that “The Sims 3” has sold over 1.4 million units within the first week since release.
The number expresses the combined sales for both the Windows and Mac editions, and according to the company, the game has already hit a record as the best PC launch ever in EA's history.
"With more than a dozen press awards, strong reviewer scores and positive feedback from The Sims community, we are thrilled with the success of The Sims 3 launch and the early sales indicate that we have another hit on our hands," said EA Play Label boss Rod Humble.
"The volume of items created with The Sims 3 and downloaded online is a testament to how passionate The Sims players are. It’s their world now, we can’t wait to see everything players create and share."
BigChampagne had published data figures showing that the piracy rates for “Sims 3” climbed pretty high – 180,000 downloads in its first four days since the leak.
