Wilco to Fans: Stream Our Album
The model of releasing your album on p2p networks yourself before it gets there independently anyway, it’s becoming more popular these days. However, alternatives are also tried out.
The members of the group Wilco have adopted a complementary ‘strategy’ and put their upcoming album up for streaming. It seems that the band aims at an opportunity to sell pre-orders for the album this way. Pre-orders will start shipping June 25.
Wilco are also trying to give fans enough reasons to buy their album instead of getting it from P2P networks – one of these reasons is having the chance to buy an exclusive t-shirt (if you order the album from their website) which will be put up for sale only starting June 29. Additionally, the band offers a tote bag and with the pre-order you get also to download the new song 'You Never Know' and more.
The market strategy goes further as there are prizes such as 4 tickets to any (non-festival) Wilco show this year and an iPod nano featuring the upcoming album.
