Norway Sees Its First File-Sharing Conviction
Norway has made a rather sad debut. Recently the municipal court of Oslo has sentenced an Oppland County-based man for being the operator of an illegal file sharing service. No other conviction of this type has been given in Norway before. The court’s decision was that the 36-year-old man consciously uploaded unauthorized many movies and songs for more than 300 people to download thus infringing the copyright law, online edition of the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten reports (quoting VG).
The conviction followed a police raid that found more than 60,000 pirated movie and music files. The infringer has used his employer’s (telecom company NetCom’s) server to make the files available to other people.
