Which is the Best Selling Game after all – Wii Sports or Super Mario Bros?

In the videogame world the crown is about to be passed on – after maintaining the title of the top selling game of all time for almost a quarter of a century, Super Mario Bros may be ready to let someone else take the lead and set a new world record.

Nintendo made public global lifetime sales for games that shipped over a million copies in the last fiscal year and so we learn that Wii Sports has reached a 45.7 million so far. The numbers currently circulating place it thus 7 million copies ahead of the veteran game. Since both games were put to sale with their respective systems the competition is fair and square.

However, Nintendo hasn’t come up with any confirmation so far towards the claims that Wii Sports has become the best selling game ever. A reason for that might be a yet to be set straight figure regarding the sales records for the – I suppose we can call it ‘legendary’- Super Mario Bros (24 years of being a champ).
