The RIAA vs. Joel Tenenbaum trial seems to go on forever. After the defendant was fortunate enough to have the Harvard law professor Charles Nesson and several students in his legal team, now Tenenbaum will have another big name on his side – Brian Message, Radiohead’s manager.

Message will be a witness for the defence and allegedly will address the issue of file sharing being actually beneficial for the music industry.

radioheade28099s-manger-defending-p2p-file-sharingNesson commented on Message’s role in this case but also in the whole process of advocating a new approach towards file sharing that musicians should adopt:
“He is leading a wonderful group of U.K. artists who are coming out in favor of the idea of non-commercial sharing among music fans. It’s clear that one of the issues that’s at play in the case is this idea that there’s been tremendous damage done to the music business. While there may have been some damage done to the CD business, the music business is going to be saved by readjusting and developing these exciting new business models that are consistent with a digital environment.”

Sadly enough, musicians themselves has little to say on the matter of handling file sharing – it’s mainly the record labels’ game.

In Rainbows, one of Radiohead’s recent albums was made available on the Internet as – pay as much as you want to – digital download and it still managed to sell over 1.75 million copies.
