Premium Services from Vipeers
The collaboration with Mininova started earlier this year pushed the Bittorrent-powered file hosting service Vipeers into introducing premium services as a way to sustain the significant increase it’s been experiencing lately.
This new pricing plan still keeps valid the offering for a free account with 5GB of storage and 5GB of bandwidth for HTTP downloads. If you choose the non-payment option, you can store content up to 30 days (the limit for file size being 1GB). Naturally, you can get a bit more ‘serious’ when switching to paid accounts: they allow 50GB of storage for up to 90 days, with a maximum file size limit of 5GB and 50 GB of HTTP bandwidth and are priced as follows – $3.99 for 48 hours or $7.99 for 30 days (which makes it almost pointless if you are going to use the service not to opt for the latter).
Vipeers Louis Choquel told Janko Roettgers at P2P-Blog about the changes the collaboration with the popular Mininova has brought so far to the company: "Before the link from Mininova we had (about) 40 000 peers on our tracker and now we have daily concurrent users over 60 000 and seeing peeks at 100 000 peers." According to Choquel most of the Mininova traffic represents actual Bittorrent traffic and not direct HTTP downloads: "This is exactly the effect that we are seeking as it enables to serve files to more people, without increasing our bandwidth bill."
Vipeers will now allow users to use the same account information for both Podmailing and the Bittorent hosting service (thanks to the merger of the two).
