Large MPAA Personnel to Be Laid Off
CNET posted an article saying that more than 10% of the MPAA staff might be made redundant. Although a confirmation from a spokesperson does exist, it doesn’t say exactly the percentage of the people about to be laid off.
Just as ambiguous remain for us the reasons behind these layoffs. Of course, one could easily blame it on the economical crisis. Could that be all or the ever-increasing p2p has also something to do with it? If we consider some of the recent reports about the real impact illegal file sharing has on the industry’s revenue the answer is not exactly the one the record industry would want us to think it is. There‘s probably more to cause this move from the MPAA than just the losses caused by file sharing (we hope the industry is not trying to play the victim even more through this major layoff).
The report reads:
The MPAA's leadership is mostly unaffected, said the MPAA spokeswoman. Prior to the layoffs, Dean Garfield, one of the more high profile MPAA attorneys, left the trade group in December to become CEO of the Information Technology Industry Council, a technology-focused trade group.
