Gears Of War PC Version Reads Expired
Still wondering about how justified DRM is? Well, here’s something to help you decide. It seems that the PC version of Gears of WAR contains an integrated expiration system that just …well, expired on January 28, 2009. This means that those who legally purchased the game are not able to play it anymore because of this “minor” detail. So is this expiration system really justified when the game is not rented but sold? I doubt it.
The irony is that the problem can be easily solved with a change of the expiration date to one earlier than January 28. In case the system was meant to have a protection purpose what kind of lame system is it?
Perhaps the whole thing is nothing more than an error like forgetting to renew the license for the game but even so, why would the game require a certificate at all?
If you’re among those who’ve bought the game you have two options – set another expiration date or have patience until an official patch is released. I wonder if those who’ve pirated the game have this problem. Guess not.
