Http File Server for Easy File Sharing
HFS (Http File Server) proposes a feasible and straightforward solution for those who are into file sharing whether, for your pals, co-workers, or anyone out there. What matters is to have your Internet connection, router, and firewall correctly configured.
Perhaps what best speaks for the software is its simplicity. So muc theh of it that even the installer is missing. Once you run the EXE file is run, you drag files into the window, and…that’s about it. Now you’re set and ready to share files. Any user can now log in to your machine – or simply connect directly if you haven't set up a login and password- and download the files you’re sharing. That works if your router is not set to properly forward ports, you’ve got a dynamic IP address or simply your firewall locks them out.
If, however what you’ve just read sounded foreign language to you, a savvy buddy might come in handy.
In essence, HFS can be described as a Web server that runs on your computer. This means that any user with a browser and who has your IP address (or domain, in case you’ve got one) is able to see the dynamically generated (and easily modified by you) Web page displaying the files put out for sharing.
The service includes many great features. It allows you to set the port the server runs on, edit the default HTML template the way you want, but also choose connection limits and save or load "file systems" (sets of files shared by your choice), plus a bunch of other features.
If we consider how tiresome configuring even a basic HTTP server can sometimes be, this service is a viable, clean and uncomplicated alternative, although documentation is kind of thin and it does require a certain level of technical knowledge to be handled. With these being said this free application can meet your needs if you’re looking for sharing files from your local system.
