YouTube Will Offer Full-Length MGM TV Shows and Movies

A joint venture between YouTube and MGM Studios is due today, Zeropaid reports. The purpose of the deal of full-length TV shows and movies made available for free streaming on MGM Studios Streaming Channel.

Although it is not yet known how many MGM movies YouTube will have online after the ink has dried on the contract, we learn from Jim Packer, MGM’s co-president, that the company has no intention of making available too much of the studio's catalog "anytime soon."

“We will have some long-form videos up on YouTube, but I don’t think that’s the platform to have 30 or 40 movies up at once,” Packer said. “I feel much more comfortable doing that on a site like Hulu.”

There are sites that already provide full-length TV programs and movies supplied by various entertainment companies like, for example,  Hulu, a video streaming site resulted from the joined forces of NBC and Fox, . Due to its actual actually embedding ads in the content for purpose of suitable monetization of TV shows and movies released this way this site was somehow privileged.

YouTube sees the opportunity of entering a new segment of the market and embraces the need to offer quality content beside the usual collection of home videos and clips. Jordan Hoffner, the director of content partnerships for YouTube pointed to the strategy that the company will look to achieve in the future: “We believe in comprehensiveness, and we want to have deals with everybody. We want to be able to give users the most content possible.”

Episodes of “American Gladiators" together with movies such as “Bulletproof Monk” and “The Magnificent Seven” will be the first to be offered.
