What’s Next for P2P?
"P2P: Content's "Bad Boy"; Tomorrow's Distribution Channel" report has been included in their offering, Research and Markets announces.
At the moment peer-to-peer data is accountable for a big percent of all consumer traffic over the Internet (44.0%, says the MarketWatch) with most of the data in question consisting of audio and video files -over 70%). Along with this huge increase in p2p traffic came the transition from to broadband caps and traffic throttling was quickly adopted in an attempt to keep this "wave" at lower levels.
There are, of course, questions and issues related to the p2p phenomenon pending and demanding the attention of P2P markets and, in fact, of all those involved in the online content business – how are the new trends defined, what has p2p come to mean, is this traffic going to be monetized, are only a few examples of such issues.
Although successfully addressing online piracy remains a goal we can take one thing for certain - the demand for online content is on constant increasing.
The progress in the area of the online content has brought higher quality video for instance but also the need to come up with efficient distributing ways.
In spite of the fact that many still can’t see beyond its controversial reputation, p2p undeniably stands for a key role in the future of the Internet. And as new technologies, such as P4P, gain acceptance and groups such as the Distributed Computing Industry Association (DCIA) bring respective parties together the future for P2P and digital content looks that much more promising.
