New BitTorrent Client to Accelerate Download Speeds: Top-BT
A new BitTorrent client software, called Top-BT was developed and released by a team of researchers from Ohio State University. The software, written in Python, presents new features such as active discovering of Internet topology which is then employed to always pick close peers to download file pieces.
According to the research, compared to native BT clients, Top-BT can boost the download speed up to twice, but save up to 40% induced Internet traffic.
You can download Top-BT from their SourceForge page as a windows installer, and for Linux as source code. For more information visit the developers’ Ohio State homepage.
The guys at Filesharefreak put Top-BT head-to-head in a speedtest with µTorrent and public trackers.
