LimeWire to Offer Viacom's Comedy Central Albums

LimeWire hardly lets a few moths pass and it’s is back in the headlines with some new offer, addition or development. This time, the company announced it will make available through the Lime Wire store, comedy albums from Comedy Central Records, by entertainers such as Mitch Hedberg, Lewis Black, (video to the right), Bobcat Goldwaith, Dane Cook and others.

A Fortune article says this is the DRM-free Lime Wire store's first deal with a leading entertainment corporation, calling the 60-album deal "a coup for Lime Wire, which is trying to shed its outlaw image and become a legitimate digital entertainment provider."

In a statement on CNN, Comedy Central Records head Jack Vaughn said the deal was a suitable move at this time, despite the fact his feelings against file sharing remain the same.

"We find file-sharing and free downloading as objectionable as anybody," he said. "We looked at the Lime Wire Store, and we said, 'Are they going to pay? Are they going to pay on time, and are they going to expose our artists to a new audience?' The answer was yes."
