Young Pirate Risking Jail for Uploading Guns N' Roses Songs
About two months ago, 27-year-old Kevin Cogill was arrested on suspicion of infringing federal copyright laws. The young pirate allegedly Coghill uploaded nine songs from the latest, still unreleased Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" on his site in June.
The band stated that although what Coghill did is not pardonable, they are rather interested in finding out the original source of the leak.
Although Coghill had admitted his guilt twice in writing to the FBI, eventually he decided to plead not guilty in court yesterday. The offender might be looking at three years in federal prison if he’s found guilty of copyright infringement and five years if the court will decide his actions had a commercial purpose.
At first, Coghill was represented by a public defender attorney but currently he’s trying to sustain his cause with the help of a personal attorney.
According to the FBI, in June, Coghill gave a written confession of his crime, revealing that he initially uploaded the files but afterwards had to remove them due to the fact the servers were no longer operational because of the traffic.
