Wang Film Released for Free on YouTube
On October 18, the Hong-Kong director Wayne Wang decided to make his latest film available for free on YouTube.
"The Princess of Nebraska" is the name of the drama who Wang wants to have at least the same success as "The Joy Luck Club" his most known film.
The film "is based on a story by Beijing-born writer Yiyun Li, about a Chinese exchange student in America who finds herself pregnant."
The director’s decision doesn’t quite correspond to the attitude with which the industry comes to meet file sharing and online piracy.
Through this non-conventional approach, the Chinese director joins the Oscar-winning independent film-maker Michael Moore whose release of his latest film, "Slacker Uprising," for free on his web site and torrents we covered last month. Probably more such movie makers will have the same initiative in the future giving Hollywood something extra to be troubled with.
The film is available at youtube.com/ytscreeningroom, a channel committed to film.
