iTunes Scores 200 million TV downloads
According to a recent announcement made by Apple, over 200 million premium television episodes have been downloaded from its iTunes digital storefront, hitting thus a new milestone. That includes more than a million HD episodes in only one month since high-definition programming was made available.
The company has closed deals with all four major U.S. broadcast networks which can be seen at the level of the offer – primetime hits in HD, among which ABC's Lost, NBC's The Office and CBS's CSI, next to programs provided by more than 70 cable networks like ESPN, Comedy Central, HBO, FX, MTV and Showtime have been added.
Taking a moment to consider the price – $1.99 per standard-definition episode and $2.99 per HD episode, Silicon Alley Insider amounts the total of video sales around $280 million in 3 years. However, it seems that the one to benefit from this major profit would be none other than the mighty Hollywood since “the majority of those sales went to NBC and Disney — NBC has said it accounted for the majority of video sales at Steve Jobs' store, and last March, Bob Iger said Disney had sold "40 to 50 million" TV shows there.” (photo credit – applegazzete)
