Vuze Changes Directions.Again
According to NewTeeVee, today Vuze Inc. has scheduled the release of version 4.0 of its BitTorrent client. This version comes with a totally changed interface, a new subscription system and the additional feature that allows you to search third-party torrent sites such as Mininova. You still get access to Vuze’s own content platform through the app though in a bit more subtle fashion. Along with a new name – Vuze HD Network – the content platform has also adopted a new approach.
Vuze has experimented lots of changes not always making the best choices – it went from an open-source software – Azureus to a P2P-powered online video platform. The whole process – the platform, originally made its debut as Zudeo in December 2006, was later re-branded as Vuze, and then got the Azureus moniker – left the original Azureus user quite confused. uTorrent was soon taking lead. According to Torrentfreak ( some months ago) uTorrent has been installed on more than 13 % of all PCs, leaving Vuze with a market share somewhere around 5 %.
NewTeeVee reads:
Vuze CEO Gilles Bianrosa told me a few days ago that his company wants to make up for those losses with a new interface that is supposed to make both beginners and experienced users happy. “The world of BitTorrent is a very fragmented ecosystem,” he told me, adding that many users would go to torrent search engines to find content, acquire the .torrent meta file from another site, download the content with an app and finally play it with a separate player. Vuze wants to simplify this experience by offering to search torrent sites and play video files right within its client. Advanced users can also subscribe to search results and automatically download periodic content.
