IPhone Stanza Downloads Beat Kindle Sales?
iPhone’s free e-book reader app, has scored over 395,000 downloads and is installed at an average rate of around 5,000 copies a day, says the software's developer Lexcycle.
According to Forbes this number exceeds a recent Citigroup estimation of 380,000 Kindles sold by Amazon by the end of 2008.
Naturally, the iPhone’s screen is smaller than the Kindle and does not make use of E-Ink – however, both put forward instant downloads. Plus, the battery life issue remains.

Apart from that, Stanza’s offering only includes books in the public domain, while Kindle offers the wide range of reading material among which newspapers, magazines and bestsellers.
Yet, the state of affairs might look different next year, given that Lexcycle is engaged in reaching agreements with some publishers.
Lexcycle's chief executive, Marc Prud'hommeaux seems very determined to turn iPhone into a winner in this competition:"Once we've got that kind of deal done, you'll be able to do everything on the iPhone that you can now do on the Kindle: browse, purchase, download and read a book without interacting with your computer in any way."
