Comcast to Develop Web-Based Bandwidth Monitor for Its Customers
Users that consume more than 250 Gigabyte of bandwidth per month will be cut off according to Comcast’s latest announcement. The number has brought about numerous debates, a major claim being that HD video downloads or online backup services may have no trouble leading to the violation of the cap.
There has been some debate about whether that number is fair, with some arguing that HD video downloads or online backup services could easily get you to violate the cap.
The problems don’t stop here. Because the company doesn’t tell its customers how much bandwidth they actually swallow, they learn about exceeding the limit when after the “wrong” has been done. Although there are some bandwidth monitoring tools for your computer, they don't absorb the substantial amount of bandwidth that devices such as the XBox, Vudu or the Netflix Roku imply.
However, the company seems not to have overlooked at least this aspect of the discontent its new policy caused. A representative of Comcast addressed the topic earlier today and wrote in comment section of GigaOM:
"A web-based tool to enable users to monitor their usage is in development."
