Better Late than Never: IMDb Offers Full-Length Movies

If you’re at least a bit into movies then you must’ve visited IMDb to find out more about a certain movie. That is only natural, as IMDb is the leading provider of film and TV information on the Internet, and it would be just as natural if it were also to provide video on its Web site.

Up until now the only videos IMDb used to offer were clips and trailers. But not anymore – and it was the damn time they did something about it - yesterday, IMDb finally launched a selection of 6,000 full length films and TV episodes, available for streaming right now. So, if that sounds appealing, just go to the site and click the big gold "Watch It" button. The new addition is hoped to prolong users’ visit to the site and not have them rushing to Hulu or similar sites looking for the content IMDb helped them find.

Apparently, the material is in its majority delivered by Hulu, but it also features smaller contribution from CBS, Sony, and independent filmmakers. (CNET is published by CBS Interactive, a unit of CBS.)

We can tick this as the first move coming from IMDb into the Web 2.0 space.

However, there is a nasty downside at play here – and this goes for Europeans only – similar to the video content offered by Hulu, IMDb's streaming service addresses exclusively to the U.S. residents.
