iPhone App Store Tenses Its Muscles- Twice as Fast in Expansion as iTunes

Let’s take a look at some download statistics from the iPhone application store, and the iTunes store's first year of operation for the sake of comparison – it seems that iPhone apps are spreading twice as fast as iTunes at its launch.

In August, Apple boasted 30 million downloads through the Apps Store. Well, - -Compared to that, the iTunes store needed two months to reach 25 million.

However, the two products are amazingly similar. They were both launched approximately a year and a half after the product they're associated with, generally both engage low-cost transactions, and both propose new ways to current marketplaces. Another similarity – the not-so-legal alternatives available for both of them - P2P for iTunes, and jailbreaking your iPhone as far as the app store is concerned; of course, we can’t compared the popularity of P2P with the less extensive iPhone hacking.

Apple is sending a strong signal (read – warning) on the market. Just as they managed to become the leader of the MP3 player market they could conquer the phone market in a similar manner. If Apple puts out some version of an iPhone Nano (which they might actually work on), then they could really come strong against Nokia and Sony Ericsson which for the time being control the mass-market.
