Google: We Own Everything You Create on Chrome!
UPDATE:Yesterday we posted our first impressions of the Google’s Chrome Web browser which were actually favourable. However, the enthusiasm that seizes almost every heavy internet with the launching of virtually any new service of the company seems to have arrested us as well and we may have overlooked a thing or two.
Google has included a few clauses in the user license which say that the company assumes ownership of anything you post, publish, and/or create while using their new browser. Sounds a bit scary? Well, here’s what they stipulate: “By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.”
Google proved to be quite prompt in responding to this. As a result of an obvious high level of discontent and reluctance on the net with respect to their invasive privacy policy, Google pledges to work ”quickly to remove language from Section 11 of the current Google Chrome terms of service. This change will apply retroactively to all users who have downloaded Google Chrome.” We’ll be eagerly looking forward to seeing Google dealing with the matter. After all, this is the same company that holds up the “Don’t be evil” motto, right?
