Limewire Store Expands: More than 1 Million Tracks Added

Limewire made their third announcement related to the expansion of their legal download store which is now 1.2 million legal, DRM-free tracks richer. The tracks start at $0.27 USD each.

When it comes to P2P popularity, Limewire knows everything about it being undoubtedly the most used file sharing application around. According to some reports as high as 18% of all personal computers have the software installed. This new addition of tracks follows the agreement Limewire has reached with "The Orchard” which distributes around 1.2 million songs from Indie labels.

The Orchard seems to be happy with the deal as Greg Scholl, President and CEO of The Orchard, stresses, “We’re pleased to support the LimeWire store, a retail offering that protects copyrights while fairly compensating artists and labels. This exciting entrant to digital retail offers us a unique opportunity to connect our clients with an online audience of potentially millions of new customers.”

With all the difficulties the store has encountered in establishing its place, now it proposes an attractive marketing opportunity for labels due to its linking to results in the P2P section of the program. If a user searches for a track available from the store, he or she will immediately linked to purchase it. Still, the problem of a”dirty” past seems to have stuck with Limewire hence the reluctance from the Big 4 record labels in approaching a deal with the p2p company.

Jason Pelzer, the LimeWire store Technical Director highlights the importance of a prompt response from community in helping the team improving the service: “LimeWire Store development has been running at full speed to provide a number of exciting new features, and we are enjoying the opportunity to improve our user community’s experience via the feedback they’ve provided.”

While you are charged $.99 cents per song, if you opt for a "Platinum" subscription plan, you will be allowed to download 75 songs for a monthly fee of $19.99 (which means $.27 cents for each individual song).
