Zoho Offers Document Sharing Service
The fast-growing suite of Zoho's productivity apps will include a new name starting today – Zoho Share, a simple to operate tool for sharing word processing documents, spreadsheets, PDF files, and slide shows. The online app is capable of reading in a number of popular document formats (although not yet the .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx files from Office 2007), and of course Zoho's own documents. You can comment on files the same way you can on other sharing systems.
The pre-release beta had an uploading working not so great but still, it was quite easy to tag work from All Rights Reserved to Public Domain. There are some other limitations like the lack of zoom controls on the view. Because PDFs appeared at 100 percent magnification in the small window, to read most of them you would need a lot of horizontal scrolling. Still, you can view any presentation full screen, which is indeed helpful.
Zoho Share’s competitors in the field are Scribd, Docstoc, SlideShare, and other "YouTubes for documents." The way things are moving, this feature is turning into a commodity. Zoho is still stands as a notable option for its sharing function and its own suite of productivity applications. The fact the service is also capable to provide shares for other type of documents should be seen as a bonus.
