7Digital and ISPs to Work Together
7Digital and ISPs are working on a deal to offer subscribers downloadable music included in their broadband package.
If an agreement is reached, 7Digital will bring the infrastructure and customers will buy songs via their ISP having, of course, to pay extra to their monthly bill.
Apparently another outcome of the collaboration might be a subscription service in which customers pay their ISP in addition to their regular bill to be able to stream and download content.
So far 7Digital hasn’t disclosed more details about the costs or limits the service would involve. It mentions though, that the discussions are carried with the six ISPs that signed up to send warning letters out to alleged file-sharers.
7digital's CEO Ben Drury points out the imminence of such a move from the ISPs: "It's a natural step for ISPs to offer added value services such as music downloads and streaming to their existing customers. It will help combat churn and attract new subscribers."
