Comcast Could Pay Huge Compensation Fees
After a year of being finger pointed due to its alleged unfair practice, Comcast seems finally to have reached Judgment Day, Torrent Freak reports.
It seems that Comcast and traffic shaping are just two terms hard to separate. The company is facing a lawsuit on a national scale for interfering with the BitTorrent traffic of their customers. The lawsuit is expected to put an end to the deceptive advertising Comcast puts forward and to compensate BitTorrent users for being cut-off from the service.
Alyson Foster, an associate at the law firm Gilbert Randolph commented on the company’s activity: “Comcast surreptitiously installed receiver packets to keep people from using file-sharing programs when it promised it wouldn’t. Of course the competition is fierce in telecommunications, but they were trying to get an unfair leg up.” He also added that the alleged damages could go beyond $5 million.
The announcement made two weeks ago by the FCC that it will order Comcast to cease its traffic interfering has everyone expecting the final outcome.
It remains to be seen what will be the court’s stand with respect to the Comcast’s BitTorrent users right to receive compensation.
