Vuze’s (Azureus) to Release New Version
For all those familiar with the p2p application Vuze (former Azureus), there’s a new version on the horizon. Apparently, Slyck was given with an advance copy, of the program just to try it out.
The first thing we learn is that by default, Vuze will limit its search to the content offered by their store. Fortunately enough, you are able to change the default settings and expand the search so as to include Btjunkie, Jamendo, Mininova, Sumotorrent. Other sites, like The Pirate Bay, for instance, were left out but yet they can be put in. Slyck comments:
For the hardened file-sharer who demands utilitarianism over style, Vuze is just another well-dressed BitTorrent client. But for the less hardened, more casual BitTorrent user who enjoys content driven by community-driven and authorized sources, the new Vuze offers enticing new features.
Vuze still goes open source and this version of it enables you to create sub-communities with your friends, and share bandwidth ratio to increase download capacity. Slyc quotes Vuze as saying:
“When you create a network of Friends on Vuze they will be able to directly use a portion of your bandwidth to get it, over other users in the swarm. One benefit of “Friend Boost” is that in most case[sic] it will speed up downloads for you and your network of friends.”
Most likely, Vuze fans out there will be thrilled with the latest release as they’ll be treated with some key improvements, the search and friends features, in particular. Compared to Azureus back in the days, Vuze has come a long a way in terms of design but also of licensed content. However, considering that mainstream file-sharing isn’t what it used to be even two years ago, those who were determined not to close their doors had to adapt with respects to appearance and main focus. Among those who managed to keep the political pressure within reasonable levels (BitTorrent, LimeWire) and still maintain their nucleus we can definitely count Vuze.
