Ground-Breaking File Sharing from Drop.Io : Easy & Private
Drop.io is a one-stop online service whose functionality ranges from merely sharing photos to having big companies using “drops” as workspaces that facilitate collaboration.
Drop.io, Inc. (http://drop.io) has turned transferring and storing impressive amounts of data into a experience open to virtually anyone, creating a private exchange platform that allows users to easily create their own private online spaces which then are used to share photos, videos, music, documents, and other.
The spaces are called “drops,” are not searchable and do not depend on any network. Basically, the service enables anyone to use “drops” and privately share any sort of digital material. From the site:
Each drop has four primary input methods – the web, email, voice, and fax – and a few secondary ones like "widgets." Anything you input into a drop can then be retrieved on the web at that drop location.
Also, you can do cool things like:
A. Create new drops quickly/ via phone:
Email/MMS new@drop.io to create drops on the fly. Put in the subject line your desired drop name ex. 'johndoe', attach the files you want dropped.
B. Download as zip file:
click download as zip and download the whole drop at once
D. Drop.io on your phone:
type in your drop's name in your phone's browser. For example, www.drop.io/dropname/m will format the drop for your phone. Now you can use drop.io from anywhere.
One of the novelties Drop.io brings forward is that as a user you can now decide the way, the time and the person with whom to share whatever is it that you want to share. Another great thing about the service is that you don’t have to register. You only have to visit www.drop.io and then upload the file you want to share into a distinct online location with a unique drop.io URL.
Sam Lessin, co-founder of drop.io. explains the aim of the service - “So much of Web 2.0 has traditionally focused on how to share content widely across ‘social networks’ or through search. But many times users need simple and, by default, private solutions. That is what we do.”
