Adobe Changes the Game – Flash Player & P2P
According to Gigaom, Adobe has a big chance of becoming one of the largest content distributors overnight due to its recently released Flash 10 player which comes bundled with quite remarkable built-in P2P features among which we mention the capability to save files on local drives.
Allegedly, the media company bought a small P2P – Amicima last year, through which the company gained great P2P experience.
Astro (cause that’s the app’s name) is still in beta and enjoys great popularity with social networking websites such as Youtube or Dailymotion which employ it to provide content to their users. You don’t have to be a genius to realize that a Flash service with P2P abilities would definitely propel content distributors as it would allow fast media distribution involving lower costs.
There’s a real line-up of offerings that the new Flash 10 promises such as 3D effects capable of turning 2D images into 3D models, dynamic audio support and also an engine for text rendering and inbuilt hardware speed increase.
Although it may take Adobe a while to come off as a major P2P service this release leads us to think that the company is heading surely just towards that and mainly due to its potential of distribution. The effect that Adobe could have on the online media publishing and distribution sector may reach impressive levels for companies such as Akamai, Joost or Babelgum.
