Pirating the Pirates?!
Medici Summit enjoyed the presence of a very vivid personality, Matt Mason. Lately this name made quite an impression due to his recent book The Pirate's Dilemma which dares to address the issue of how can the poles be reversed and society, the economy and the businesses can benefit from pirates after all, Boingboing.net informs.
Matt presented his theory in very persuasive and charming 30 minute-speech which reached its peak along with a very inspired and inspirational syntagm "The best way to profit from pirates is to copy them."
Indeed we can put this little aphorism next to Tim O'Reilly's "The problem for artists isn't piracy, it's obscurity" that just pins down the real stake. Meanwhile pirates are wasting no time trying to come up with ways to promote their “work”. This goes hand in hand with an obvious enthusiasm towards using BitTorrent and doing all the work of selecting, converting, uploading and tagging short, embeddable clips.
Now, isn’t starting to sound a bit better the idea that if you want to get rich off the pirates who are leeching off you, just copy their best ideas ?
