MPAA Involuntarily Advertises Torrent Site

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) keeps itself busy these days. The organization has sued another site for encouraging piracy. According to ArsTechnica the MPAA targeted Pullmylink.com for aiding copyright infringement through the links posted on it to what the MPAA labels as illegitimate material.

All these sound kind of familiar. The procedure will probably follow the usual pattern as in other cases in which similar sites have faced lawsuits :peekvid.com, youtvpc.com, showstash.com, cinematube.net, ssupload.com, to name several. Back in 2006 the MPAA also filed suits against BitTorrent, eDonkey, USENET, TorrentSpy (and more) for facilitating the search and the download of copyrighted material, too.

The MPAA’s argument that pullmylink.com earns revenue from making these links available is that the site displays ads on its page.

MPAA VP John Malcolm emphasized the ‘profiting’ aspect of the whole activities sites like Pullmylink.com are encouraging - "Pullmylink.com and sites like it are a one-stop shop for copyright infringement" […] "We have filed several other similar suits and will continue to do so in order to hold operators accountable for their illegal activities. Profiting from the theft of other people’s creative works is illegal and we have every intention of shutting this, and sites like it, down for good."

Malcolm also pointed out that the battle against piracy is increasingly gaining ground and the MPAA has seriously changed the odds in this respect.

However, there’s something else the MPAA should and is probably already considering - this lawsuit against Pullmylink.com may just as well work as a very efficient advertisement for this site. So, Pullmylink.com could actually benefit from the whole thing as some of those learning about the site might want to see what it offers.
