Mibbit: IRC finally gets down with the newbies
Although it is indeed useful, IRC suffers from a rather bad image as many consider it to bet a bit difficult to get familiarized with, oriented only at advanced users. Thus Mibbit comes as nice break, a much welcomed straightforward approach to IRC as it runs conveniently in your browser without requiring any special client. We think that any novice IRC users will appreciate this opportunity to be able to get things going.
You will definitely love this - Mibbit allows you jump to all your usual servers and save a list of your favorite channels to launch every time you sign on and, additionally, you can customize Mibbit to suit your preferences.
Its utility extends to private messaging and ops controls just like a desktop application with contextual menus that pop-down. It's quite a step forward from being required to enter the right short codes to set modes which most of the users would have spent some time to get used to. Beginners can also get access to interesting rooms with a search tool that allows you to find out juts how many users are in each room and, moreover, what IRC server it's on.
If you own a site and think about getting Mibbit on it – there’s quite an easy way to do it – you need some simple embed code that opens up straight to that channel they set. However, it doesn’t include all features as the version you can use on your site through a whole iFrame, but it’s a very good appetizer. You’ll see at once that it keeps the most recent few lines of the room's conversation, which have been seen on different places such as Meebo Rooms and Yaplet–and can become quite handy catching up with the chatting.
