Japan about to Become the First to Ban File Sharers
Japan still keeps its reputation as a “less talk, more action” kind of nation. It has recently surprised again through its
determination to get ahead France and the UK who both have been trying to solve the problem of banning file sharers from the internet and actually be the first one to do so.
Yet, the agreement for such endeavor does not come, as probably expected, from the Japanese Government, but (and here is the blow) from four Japanese internet service providers following, it seems, the pressure kept constant by the mighty record and movie industries. As stated by Torrent Freak, the agreement implies copyright holders employing a “special detection software” to track down file-sharers online followed by a notification sent to the aforementioned ISPs containing the alleged infringers. The whole process will go like this: in an initial phase file sharers will be given a warning for a first offense, followed by disconnection if subsequent offenses occur, and, as an ultimate measure they will be permanently disconnected from the internet; however, it is yet to be understood if the agreement is actually a three strikes proposal.
The first to be targeted will be the users of Winny, the most popular file sharing network in the Nippon country.
