IFPI Raid Targets MP3 Top Site Server
Bad news for those who are into newsgroups, BitTorrent and electronic music. Today the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) proudly declared its triumphant raid against two servers located in the capital of Hungary, Budapest which was hosting the release group RAGEMP3.
Another victim of the raid was the MP3 release group XXL. As stated by the press, the IFPI, ProArt (let’s call it – the local copyright traffic police), and the Hungarian authorities managed to break into the release group's server.
However, the IFPI made no reference regarding what RAGEMP3 and XXL should expect on the long run. It seems that, even though one of their servers has been terminated, their organizational structure was not affected. The raid resulted in no arrests; moreover, the servers intercepted were not vital to the good functioning of the group.
