BLU-RAY & HD DVD
BLU-RAY IN THE FUTURE
Although the Blu-ray format won the next-generation war that is a reason for its supporters to lay back at ease. It’s not also a reason for the Blu-ray DVD player owners to get too comfortable. Blu-ray DVD player producers including Sony and Panasonic are getting ready to release more advanced models this year with new appealing features not included in most current Blu-ray players.
We have to say that the most noteworthy of these features is internet connectivity, which will allow users to download extra content like, for example, film trailers, more film extras and even simple movie-based games.
BD-Live is another feature Blu-ray DVD player boasts. This enables viewers to watch picture-in-picture content – for example, a small window can be displayed as the movie plays to show an actor discuss a scene.
HD DVD IN THE FUTURE
HD DVD shared the fate of Betamax and is now dead as a format. As quoted by CourierMail.com, Toshiba general manager Mark Whittard emphasizes that the high-definition DVD players did not lose their "inherent value" and"viewers can still play their CDs or their DVD library (in a HD DVD player) and they can upscale their DVDs to near high-definition quality". He also said that in many cases one cannot notice any difference between them.
In order to upscale or "upconvert" a DVD, the DVD player artificially upgrades the disc's content (whose resolution is of 480i), to the native resolution of your high-definition television, whether 720p, 1080i or 1080p. However, not all the DVD players behave similarly with this.
Wanting to keep its good name, Toshiba has also promised HD DVD player owners that the company will not cease to maintain and provide service for the equipment for at least five years to come.
