Games Downloads are Less Popular than Music Downloads
Games outdo music in selling in bricks'n'mortar
MCV, the British industry journal presents the figures for game, music and DVD sales at the High Street given by Entertainment Retailers’ Association (ERA). According to the latter games are facing a boost in sales which propels them ahead of music. Still, they are outsold by DVDs.
Here are the figures quoted:
2007: Video/DVD: £2,164m
Games: £1,719m
Music: £1,417m
Kim Bayley, director general of ERA, predicts a supremacy of games in the future – "Games prices hold up a lot better against music and DVD – it won’t be long until games revenue overtakes DVD."
Games owe their strong holding up with prices to resale. It seems that people still prefer to get their games as physical product from the local store more than they do with music.
