Top downloads – Rock Band Becomes a Star itself – 2.5 million songs downloaded
MTV Networks are bewildered by their own success. The company proudly confirmed on Friday the number of their additional songs (2.5 million!) for the new game craze Rock Band, released only two months ago, on November 20, 2007. The game, designed for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, enthralls its users by allowing them to download additional songs, which are priced about $2 each. MTV Networks launched just one month later a PS2 version of the which, however lacked the song download feature. The game has become popular quite rapidly due to its “special service” which introduces new song downloads on weekly basis since it hit the market. It seems that “the four horsemen” are still masters of the…sales as the game's top-selling music download proves to be none other than Metallica with its three-pack of songs, followed by Foreigner's Juke Box Hero, Creedence Clearwater Revival's Fortunate Son, Weezer's Buddy Holly and The Knack's My Sharona topping the singles. The president of MTVN Music Group/Logo/Films, Van Toffler, referred to Rock Band as a new approach to entertainment which brings interaction to another level. He emphasized the junction between these two distinct fields – gaming and music and the amazing response of the public to the downloadable content. Such a response could only encourage the company to further set up this platform as means for customers to reach more new artist by using the game besides providing them with “great game play experiences set to the music of mega- artists” as Van Toffler said. This week’s latest update featured The Monkees' Last Train To Clarksville, Blink 182's All the Small Things, and Sweet's Action. For 2008 more song bundles, albums and singles ranging from $0.99 to $2.99 are waiting to be released.
