LimeWire risks to be sued by Mashboxx
It seems that Wayne Rosso, the creator of the P2P startup Mashboxx regards Limewire's most recent projects which seek to combine file sharing with contextual advertisement as infringement of some of the patents belonging to his company. He is determined to “go after anyone who comes near to it.”
Though initially Mashboxx was supposed to be accredited by the music industry, pecuniary matters led to an almost slow death of the company.
LimeWire CEO George Searle made some statements with reference to the company's future plans. He revealed details about its forthcoming music download store and also about a fresh project – “LimeSpot intended to put forward bands and forums, wikis and blogs. Quoted by AfterDawn.com George Searle predicted that “Soon, within LimeWire you’ll be able to connect with participating artists, and drill down or sideways to see photos, find tour dates, watch music videos, find lyrics and buy music, tickets and merchandise.”
However, until we get to see all these initiatives coming to life, there is Wayne Rosso and his patents to consider. The founder of Mashboxx has enthusiastically expressed his wish to defend those patents by suing LimeWire. Yet, as at this moment we can’t tell for sure the patents referred to we will follow the ongoing of the matter and keep you posted.
